Russell is gonna kick my booty for dragging up old threads but this post will serve a purpose.
I have made several of my own themes and modified several others. After making my two crown jewels I got some nice compliments and reviews on them. Both are plays on gradients. One is blue and the other is red. One complaint I did get was the stark white text on the black backgrounds was hard on the eyes. I ran some colors for the text by the crew and it was settled on using a gray in the message windows in Big Red. Not all of BG's text is gray. Text for Traumatic Tinking is still screaming white. And although they look like they would be heavy and slow loading, they actually load very quickly.
The point I'm trying to make is what trips your trigger may not trip the trigger of members or passersby. Get input from others as you put together a theme. Not only will you have something that is appealing to the masses, your members and staff will have a closer nit feeling in the comunity as they had a part in putting it together. This is the reason I have put out a call to people that want to help put our new format together. I need to have a feel for what they want and want to see.
