A major release to vBulletin that was originally due to be released in Q2 of 2009 is now looking like late 2009. Alpha testing is coming up probably in August, which is privately tested in a private environment. Beta testing will follow with a private testers' bed using public sites, some possibly production sites.

For those who don't know, vBulletin 4.0 will result in an entire backend rewrite but instead of an entire new set of features being released at once, vBulletin has decided to increment the release of the new features into several version releases.

you have to give them credit for delaying the release..
most companies would shove it out the door with several
key parts visibly duck taped onto the frame.. lolol

and as far as the trickle release of new features.. I have mixed
emotions about that.. but I see why they would do it that way..

With them delaying the release they insure the product is as bug free as humanly possible.
But the price and the incremental release of products may turn a lot off of using it.

I scored the 4.0 Publisher Suite. As for incremental releases, the publisher suite has all I need. I can't think of what else I would really need to have on a hobbyist type forum.
The beta has been released to the pre-buyers so as soon as Buzz has the time to set up a test forum, we'll be taking a look at it up close and personal.
