The performance of a website is a key factor deciding the success of your online business. The web pages in your site should perform well and without any hindrance which ensures a smooth browsing experience to the client. There are many factors to consider making your site fast and easily navigable. The term ‘fast’ is used here to denote the page loading time. If a page is filled with images of huge sizes then it will increase the loading time. Hence, before choosing an image it is necessary to optimize it to a size which is most suitable. However, while optimizing, you should ensure that the quality of the images are not lost. Depending on the color and contrast of the images, you can save them in various formats. The most common formats are JPEG, JPG, TIF, GIF, PNG etc. GIF and PNG formats are used to support graphic files. Though both are similar, PNG produces files of relatively lower size.

While coding the website, the programmer should ensure that unnecessary spaces, comments etc are removed from the source code. This process is called compressing the document. There are many free tools available on the internet which allows you to compress the CSS and JavaScript documents which hold the coding. However, ensure that you use quality applications that have the option to reverse the process just in case you have to revert to the primary state of the code.

A webpage loads by sending a HTTP request to the server. There are numerous HTTP requests in both the CSS and JavaScript documents. Each of which has to be sent to the server. This makes the loading process quite slow. To avoid this, you can combine all the files (CSS & JAVASCRIPT) which results in only one HTTP request to generate a webpage. All these factors will help you to optimize and improve the performance of your site.
