This is a program I am very familiar with. It's far easier (In my opinion) than Photoshop. I have used it on most of my work. It has most if not all features of PS. I'd recomend you give it a go  GIMP, the GNU Image Manipulation Program http://www.gimp.org

I have used GIMP a few times.. I agree its a very powerful program.. \ especially for a free one... <--cant wait for the day Open Source Rules the market..

Not familiar with it at all. I am just learning Photo Shop and think my brain would explode if I tried to learn another one at the same time.

I have GIMP and it's the cat's meow. if a non coder type like me can learn it any one can.
